A report produced by GfK for TechCityInsider and other partners (including Digital Shoreditch) was released at last weeks DS13.

It made for compelling reading – not least because it ‘validates’ the core reason as to why WOW-Elite is here.

‘The biggest single challenge facing London’s tech businesses is a shortage of skilled workers in the jobs market. These are not traditional skills like finance, HR and sales, but specialised digital and technology skills like coders, developers and usability specialists.’ (TechCity Futures Report: Headline Findings)

70% of surveyed business agreed that there is a shortage of programmers – while 42% agreed it was difficult to retain talent.

77% of business stated that they could grow quicker if they had access to people with better skills – with the top 5 skills i demand being: coders / developers (programmers) / marketing and PR / business development / web developers and UX specialists.

‘We need skilled developers who can hit the ground running. They are few and far between at the moment which significantly slows down all other activities’.

49% of businesses strongly agreed that ‘they find it hard to access talent leaving University’.
